I think the biggest thing we can learn from the Panda update that took place this last February is that the phrase “Content is King” should really be changed to “Quality content is King.” This is because when people thought about content pre-panda, they only thought of it in terms of volume.
Loading articles with keyword phrases and redundant content was a sure way to get at the top of the rankings as long as you were able to keep it decently original and somewhat readable and at a reasonable length.
Do read :
The Panda update determines a couple things that are very important. For one it looks at things like bounce rate, time spent on page, and irrelevant ads. It then applies these metrics to its algorithm and ranks websites with poor scores according to these factors (among many others).
This mean one thing: Volume writing is no longer an effective SEO strategy, and the Panda update virtually killed article marketing in that regards. If people aren’t on your page reading all of the content that you website has to offer, then there is a good chance that your website rankings will suffer because of it.
If you want people to read your content, you better be sure that it is well written and highly creative. Make sure you use all of the things that you learned back in your basic English Classes. Does your article have a good hook, does it cover everything the reader should know? Are there good transitions? Interesting transition sentences can be very important for the flow of an article. Transition sentences make sure that the reader keeps going from paragraph to paragraph – without them you are left with a very dull read, one that won’t be acceptable post Panda in terms of ranking well in the SERPs.
You also want to make sure that you are making your article easy on the eyes. People that are surfing the web are usually looking for instant gratification – and if they can’t find the answer to the question they are looking or right away – they usually move on to something else.
You can do this by shortening your paragraphs (no longer than 200 word unless absolutely necessary) and by creating headers so that people who are visiting your page can find exactly what it is they need to know right away.
You also want to make sure that you are taking care of your SEO needs in terms of keyword density (2-3% will do) and that you include some of the keywords that you are trying to rank for within the headers. You also want to use different variations of the keyword that you are trying to rank for – it will help with ranking for your targeted keyword as well as ranking for different variations for it.
Of course the main thing you want to focus on is getting the best content up that you possibly can. This will ensure that your content will not be affected by any future algorithm updates like the Panda update, and it will also ensure that you will be able to satisfy your viewers and keep them coming back.
